Name: Martin Halston
Alias: None
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 25
Appearance:
Description: Martin stands at about six feet tall and weighs close to 190 pounds. His body reflects the type of work he has done most of his life and as a result he has a muscular frame. He has two scars of note. The first is a thin scar that starts near his ear and runs down his cheek until it stops before his mouth. The other scar is larger and covers most of his left calf.
Clothes: When he's not in his fighting garb, Martin usually wears a simple jerkin and a pair of britches. The only things that would stand out as flashy are his boots.
Weapons: Martin uses a longsword but has also used spears in the past.
Armor and other accessories: Martin possesses a very basic suit of leather armor, excluding any head cover, and uses a wooden center-grip shield.
Personality: Martin's personality can range from being boisterous and very personable to reserved to enraged: he's generally an ordinary person. One point of note is that while outwardly he is very expressive he does hold most of his real feelings and emotions back. After all, you can't trust most people these days cause they might wind up stabbing you in the back (he speaks from literal experience).
History: Martin grew up in a village that was at the foot of the mountains in Avaren. His father, Alfred, worked in the mines to supply the champions of Avaren with the materials they needed to make their weapons while his mother, Katherine, tended to the small farm that they lived on. There was nothing special about his childhood, a very ordinary one of stick sword-fighting, chasing girls, and hiding from his parents whenever they caught him at something he shouldn't be doing.
When he was 16 he joined his father in the mines and worked in them for about for about 8 years: his body growing stronger and more accustomed to the rigorous labor. It was shortly after his 24th birthday that a group of men visited the town and that's when trouble started. They showed the miners the seal of Avaren, and asked for a ship of iron ingots: only that very shipment had been collected by the actual soldiers from Avaren about two days earlier. When the village elder tried to explain this, the leader of the strangers drew his axe and buried it in the old man's neck.
Fighting broke out as the miners tried defending their village against the brigands, and Martin aided them in this defense. Having never fought before in his life Martin was grievously wounded when a spear pierced his calf from behind and was promptly knocked unconscious from the flat of a sword hitting the back of his head. The brigands killed or maimed everyone that opposed them, including Martin's father (who was killed trying to reach his son), and left after they sacked the village of all its valuables: gold, various metals, women and the like. Among the valuables that were taken was his mother.
It was on that day that Martin swore revenge on the men that did this and after he recovered, thanks to the care of several of the survivors, the dark-haired man set out into the world to find these men. A year has transpired since he had sworn his oath and Martin is slowly turning into a capable warrior. He does odd jobs here and there, and in all appearances is a mercenary: this is merely an act. He believes that if he makes a name for himself in this business, he'll eventually run into the men that ruined his life and end their's on the blade of his sword.
