[ooc: Title by Tea. Open to all]
The only sound as he fell from the sky was that of the wind rushing against his feathers. The eagle's wings were clamped tight against its body as it dived in a freefall toward the ground, its gold-ringed eyes entirely devoid of fear despite the earth rushing up to meet it. At the last second possible, its wings snapped open, bringing it up and away from the earth in an upward swoop.
Flapping its powerful, nearly five-foot wingspan, the golden eagle cleared the city walls and abruptly wheeled in a circle, bringing its altitude down to the actual wall level, where it touched down. In its talons was clutched a knapsack from which a clanking of steel could be heard: Orca's sword, the one he should always have on him but generally didn't. His other bird form, the little mountain finch, couldn't carry it, you know? Too heavy.
He didn't generally like to take this form as he thought it too conspicuous. During the daytime, his wings would catch the sunlight and turn into liquid gold, bright enough for any to see him. Not good, right? Well, he'd been extra careful today, making sure to stay out of sight of any guards -- not because he was doing anything wrong, but because he didn't want any extra attention. That was okay, wasn't it?
The eagle made itself more comfortable on its temporary perch, dropping the bag to the walk. It preened briefly, then turned into the little orange-and-white cat, which paced to and fro on the wall before sitting down and curling its tail around its paws. He wouldn't have to wait long, right? Nervously, he licked a paw and wiped it over an ear. If anyone did happen to come by before his expected company, he would just look like some ordinary stray cat, just takin' a nice rest on... the city walls?
The cat crouched down and hoped fervently he'd be left alone.

Amil walked slowly along the city wall. It was tough being new in town, but of course it was always tough. After all, he wasn't exactly normal. He had recently bought some strange red string from a shady character, but it was still unclear if it was any good. Hopefully he would be able to check it out before trying it out. That guy was kinda shady.
So, he spent all afternoon looking around the city for someone who might be able to help him identify something magical. Now, he was obviously looking for a magician guard who wasn't too busy.
Of course, things don't always go as planned, and when you see something cute, you just want to touch it, right? Well, this urge was clearly the driving force when Amil walked over to the stray cat, looked left and right, and...
Slumped over. Amil fell to the ground quite quickly, making an odd wooden sound. Aria, of course, was now standing on her own. It was unusual for her to be so direct, but there weren't any people there at the moment, and she wanted to pet the kitty...
So, Aria hesitantly reached out toward the cat before her and... she hoped it was friendly... she tried to put her hand on its head and give it a good scratch behind the ears...

Orca, not the most patient person ever, had eventually gotten bored, sitting there like that, and boredom turned to sleepiness, which of course, being a cat in a comfortable position, turned into actual sleep. It was the clanking noise not a few feet away that woke him, and he blinked drowsily, wondering what was going on.
Then his vision was abruptly blocked out by monster hands that descended over his head with obviously evil intents. The fingers extended and --
Ooh, that felt nice. Despite himself, the little cat began to purr, even going so far as to bump his head against the hand. Wait, what was he doing? This situation couldn't possibly be good. The shapeshifter ducked out from under the appendage and glanced up to see... a little girl?
Well, okay, that wasn't so bad.
The dead guy by her feet probably was.
Crap. That was a dead guy, wasn't it? Should he investigate? Should he run? ...Wait, the girl thought he was just a cat, didn't she? So he could use that.
"Meow," he said decisively, and hopped down by her feet. He pawed inquisitively at the guy, as though somehow little kitty cat taps would answer all his questions for him. If he was dead, shouldn't he, like, get guards or something? Though, weird, the guy didn't smell dead. He didn't really smell like anything.
Huh. Weird.

Aria tried to follow the cat, but she wasn't exactly fast. In fact, without Amil, she was downright slow. She needed him to move quickly. It was normally kind of scary when she 'woke' Amil up, but there wasn't anyone around, so she could pull him back straight without too much trouble.
She shook her hand with the string attached and suddenly Amil began to jerk back up with all the grace of a creepy doll from a horror movie. She figured it might startle the kitty, but she could always try and grab it when it ran away. Kitties weren't so bright, after all.
Amil, as he finished standing up, began to move more like a person. He flexed an arm, moved a leg and sang a note. He wasn't particularly pleasant to listen to, but then it was hard to control supposed vocal cords with puppetry magic.
When she finished getting him up, she turned to look for the kitty. "Heeeere kitty!"

The dead guy moved. The kitty breathed a little kitty sigh of relief. Well, that was good -- oh my gods what the shit was going on. He wasn't the smartest arrow in the quiver, but that was totally not normal.
Right?
The little cat quivered in place, its eyes widened as far as they could go. Then the girl called for him like nothing had happened. Here kitty? Yeah, uh, how about no. He wasn't having anything to do with this business.
The cat turned to flee, but last second remembered his bag. Crap. Normally, he'd just ditch it, but it had his sword in there, and he was sure Azrael wouldn't be too happy about him losing that. Well, maybe he wouldn't care, but you never knew, right? Crap crap crap.
There was obviously some sort of creepy magic going on here. Orca wasn't comfortable with magic in general, so this was just an overkill. Maybe... if he hid, she'd get bored and leave?
The shapeshifter scrambled around the dead-not-dead-magic-guy-thing and hid behind his -- its? -- legs, pressing low to the ground. Totally out of sight, right?

Aria saw the kitty go to flee and then hide behind Amil's legs. How adorable. She wanted to pet the kitty some more. It seemed like the cat was afraid of Amil, but it was hiding behind Amil, right? Why was the kitty still here? Oh, well. That just meant she could pet it, right?
So, she tugged the string, and Amil stepped off to the side. Then, she began fussing with the string around her finger. Kitties liked string, right? She managed to untie it after decidedly more effort than she had intended, and started moving it back and forth in front of the cat. As long as she was still holding it, Amil should stay upright.
"Kiiitty!"
