:V I think they should have their own area in the Mage trees. It feels like there's hardly any real connection between Shapeshifting and the ones in that tree later. It seems like a power with enough... well, power to warrant being its own single area, without even more branches. Either that, or you give them a limit at the first level of how many different animals they can turn into, and then add onto that for each new level. I think that'd round out the mage tree a little better, balance shapeshifting out a little more and just make more sense in general.
That would, however, show that the druid tree needs fixing after that point in general. Probably. XD Maybe I just don't understand that class well enough.

To further comment on this, if this were to come into e(a?)ffect, I think 3 or 4 for level 1 shapeshifter is pretty fair. :V Then for level two it could be either another 3 or 4, and so on.

I think it was largely based around the concept of "nature mages", essentially. Basically, going by D&D stuff, changing form into animals was a distinguishing class feature of druids, which is where the relation comes in.

That makes more sense. :V Then maybe (just a suggestion) you could add the animal limit and add to it each rank? Like I know we don't wanna put limitations on people's rping but i think having to choose between a few for each level will honestly encourage more creativity instead of just on-the-fly 'i can turn into that'. To be honest I might just be overthinking this. XD It's really not that big of a deal and I don't think it ever really will be.

I agree with the animal limit and she has given fair enough numbers to start with, I was assuming perhaps 2 for the first level and so on, but that is even more generous haha.

I honestly don't like the idea of limitation. as I have already set a few of my own on my character. This character in particular is from a tropical rain forest. All his forms are Tropical. The Fact that I an go fron a 30 foot snake to a Poisonous frog, and then to a macaw is a pretty unique part of my character not just the power that's like limiting peoples ability to act.
Another thing to consider. The equivalency between classes. We set no limits on a sorcerer, to give a shape-shifter less forms would put them at a disadvantage. A scorser could do all sorts of the but all a shape shifter could do is turn in a wolf or some thing that really makes the class attractive when compared to the others.
I'm sorry but i really wouldn't want to dumb down my character serioulsy if i only had a few animals mycharacter would have like 2 animals that are unique to him and all the rest would be like every other shapeshifter.
As for the druid shapeshifter ything. Druids are also shape shifter in Worlds of Warcraft, and Diablo. Blizzard, tolkien and DnD are going to be pretty common sources of inspiration on a site like this familiarity makes things more comfortable.
Edit: If there was a limit it should ba like the TYPES of animals. like nothing sentient.

I don't think you would have to change to specific animals per level Kojo <<; It would just be a limit on how MANY animals.

OK, I do see your point on this as well. I thought of, considered the characters already out there when I agreed tot eh limit. But you DO make a very good point when comparing them to Sorcerers and such.. Yes then I change my opinion, you have swayed me thus.

I don't think you would have to change to specific animals per level Kojo <<; It would just be a limit on how MANY animals. this also begs the question of HOW do you gain new forms. Orca and I have sort of decided that the character has to learn about the animal before they can become the animal. They would set a limit to animals of a current region. This is the reason to the limit that would be imposed on an exotic character like mine. Now that he's left the jungle and found his way to the mountains all he;d be able to learn the new ones he can observe in his current surroundings. It takes away from how exotic and diverse you can make shape shifter. Th divercity is really what make a shape shifter fun in many cases, and this site IS about having fun.

oh hey this actually sort of pertains to me. Honestly, limits don't really make sense, if you think it through. Once a mage is able to shapeshift, like at all, honestly they should be able to do it for as many animals as they wanted, in whatever ways. For my character in specific, he learns animals one by one, by first observing them first-person, then practicing it. Not because I think that best befits a level-one shapeshifting mage (though it does), but because I love character growth? And I thought it would be fun? And others (like Kojo) are welcome to join me in this because they understand how super awesome I am it is?
I really think it's to each their own. If someone wants to go off and say their character can shapeshift ANY ANIMAL EVEN DRAGONS ALSO CENTAURS AND GIGANTIC WINGED GODDESS WOLVES well then have fun with that I guess. Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy my awesome Pokemon/Animporphs hybrid of acquiring/catching them all. Or whatever.

Whatever is thematically appropriate!
I generally count on the RPers to censor themselves to a somewhat appropriate level of power. If there are people who go overboard, such as an individual who decides he can turn into the WORLD EATER DRAGON the moment they join cuz we didn't set strict limitations, I'd rather handle those instances on a case-by-case basis.

But yeah, ultimately, we're not so much an RPG as we are a collective narrative, so I prefer not to have really strictly defined list of powers if I can. Only sorta vague outlines people can fill details into. I trust the community to police itself when it comes to people overplaying their hands.

I think, over-all... i'm going to have to agree with Azzy on this. He makes a valid point of going case-by-case, since... hell. We don't know how many people are going to have character that have this ability.
my question is, is it that ANY druid can shapeshift? or only the ones that learn to do it?
