Sarathai sat alone and at his own table, pondering the current state of affairs. so many people, so many wonders, all lost with the fall of Aesir. The city was probably currently a potential treasure trove of beneficial magic, healing spells beyond the current imagination of citizens in Avaren. All they needed was to find them and so many woes of the people would be dispelled.
Also, rumors stated that the ruins were filled with undead. Undead! An offense to Pelor and all decent people in this city. They all needed to be laid to proper rest, and with the blessing of his god, he would do his best to attempt it.
A swelling of courage within him, likely due to the effects of alcohol, inspired him to slam his mug down noisily on the table. Seeing that a decent number of people were looking his way, he loudly proclaimed, "We should send an expedition into Aesir itself, for the eradication of the threat it poses and to recover items for the benefit of all the people of Avaren!"

Malachy sat at a table near the the rear of the bar ale in hand. Again he was here taking a break from hours of study at the academy. He was starting to get bored of the repetition of day to day life. Weeks at at time he would spend at the academy. and every once an a while he would go into to town to enjoy some choice food and drink. He really didn't have any ambitions. His one reason for life had been lost in Aesir, so all he did now was live. But then a man at in the tavern stood and spoke.
He wanted to go to Aesir and retrieve what they could. He suddenly felt like he needed to go so he stood. "I If you are forming an expedition, sir, you will need someone that knows the city that you wish to go to. "I lived there before the fall, Allow me to join you and you will have yourself a map, or at least a navigator." Malachy offered. Of course the man would have to tolerate magic as Malachy had no other way to protect himself.

"Excellent!" Sarathai responded enthusiastically. "We have a guide with you, and I can provide healing by the good graces of Pelor." Well, this response was much more prompt than he imagined. Hell, he though he might actually have ended up offending people with the idea of traveling to that place, considering all the bad talk going on regarding it.
"I think we need more muscle, too." He continued, "People to smash things out of our path if necessary. Perhaps get a wonderful union of mages and warriors to solve this problem as a team."

Things had lately been rough for Martin. He had just finished escorting a caravan into the city of Avaren and was given a decent sum of gold for his troubles. The problem was that gold only lasted for so long and he was nearing his last few pieces as he sat at the counter of the bar. The dark-haired man was currently stuffing his mouth full of venison when he heard someone say something about Aesir. It didn't register at first as important, but when he heard the part about the items he nearly choked on his food.
If someone wanted items that badly from the fallen city then they clearly had some price attached to them, and even if they weren't willing to part with those gaining access to the city could reveal other lost treasures: treasures that would benefit all "mankind", and by that he was referring to himself. Taking a swig out of his tankard to clear the food from his throat, Martin pushed himself up from his chair and turned to look at the person who was speaking. That man definitely had the look of a holy man about, and the other person that offered to help seemed no different: they would certainly need someone of his talents. Walking over to the two men, Martin called out to them, "I couldn't help over-hearing your conversation and it sounds like you need protection for this journey of yours. I would gladly offer my assistance, but it does come at a price. If there are any items of value that you two do not claim for the sake of knowledge, I would ask that I would be able to pick from the remainder for my own profit. After all, books and knowledge only feed the mind: it is gold that keeps one's belly fed."

Malachy had not named any sort of price when he offered his assistance. Though, seeing as how he claimed to know his way about the city, it was probably safe to say he was a former resident. Thus, it was safe to assume that he was probably attached to the mage academy here in Avaren. So, any knowledge they brought back he would be able to benefit from personally as a result of this affiliation. Not to mention the prestige he would gain within the academy for expanding their knowledge.
The other man, the second one, was entirely the opposite. He seemed more or less the traditional sort of sell sword Sarathai expected to run into at this tavern. His demands reinforced that opinion about him. Still, nothing beyond what Sarathai has expected.
"Of course. I wouldn't think to ask people to risk their lives for mere charity, though, charity would be accepted with open arms." He replied, smiling at the man. "Basically, anything purely knowledge-based, such as book or tomes, I would love to bring back. These might contain all manner of helpful spells that might benefit mankind. I imagine that there would also be all manner of magical weapons and armors, that you could either use professionally or sell for a high price. Does this sound like a fitting reward for you to claim?"
(ooc: man, now I wanna make a D&D mini-campaign based on this premise. XD )

"How long do we have to prepare for the journey when do you plan on leaving for the ruins?" Malachy asked curiously He would need time to get his book and a magical implement and maybe some other supplies so that he wouldn't have to depend on the others. "What supplies should we bring one man can't carry everything. How should supplies be divided?"
(heh that would be fun Fighter, Cleric and a Wizard. Haven't played DnD for a while.)

The guide sure did ask a lot of questions. Though, they were rather important ones, so he should probably answer to the best of his ability.
"Let us see, I figure we have as long to prepare for our journey as necessary, as we are not on a very strict schedule by any means. As for supplies, I figure we could acquire some manner of beasts of burden for our journey. I think we will need plenty of food, at least several weeks worth of rations just in case. Basically, just your generic list of supplies for going on any sort of expedition. As for Aesir specifically, you would know that better than us, I think. What sort of supplies would you have us bring?"
(ooc- sorry, but I think he might not be replying, so I figured we'd go on ahead...)

"Well..." Malachy paused and thought to himself. "It'll take a day or so to get there I'd pack some rations, and stuff to sleep on. And well we're basically pillaging a dead city. A few bags to carry our things. And probably a pack mule if we plan on bringing a lot back. Other than that I don't know. I'm not exactly an experienced thief." He said. "Maybe we should bring one."
